Technically a tulipwood, yellow poplar has medium density and excellent machining properties.

With creamy sapwood, the heartwood runs from yellowish brown to olive green. Yellow poplar wood has a medium to fine texture and is straight grained. Yellow poplar has medium density, excellent machining properties and takes and holds paint, enamel and stain exceptionally well. Used for furniture, cabinetry, doors and mouldings. Our yellow poplar is available from the Appalachian region.
