Soft maple is less dense than hard maple, its higher priced relative, and is sometimes used as a substitute.

It has similar grain and figure, in addition to good machining properties. Northwest Hardwoods offers soft maple from both the Glacial and Appalachian regions. The climates in both regions produce soft maple with outstanding color and fine texture. Glacial and Appalachian soft maple can be purchased in special white color pulls.
