  • Ensures lumber species, grade, quantity, and size match batch requirements prior to cutting.
  • Ensures that all components are cut to specifications.
  • Optimizes material use to minimize waste.
  • Maintains a clean, orderly work area.
  • Communicates effectively with supervisor/team members to accomplish tasks.
  • Conducts routine daily maintenance/cleaning on equipment.
  • Inspects equipment before and after every shift and reports any concerns to Sawmill Forman promptly.
  • Operates all equipment in a safe and efficient manner following prescribed work methods.
  • Adheres to OSHA requirements and company policies/procedures to ensure safety always.

The Requirements:

Key responsibilities and requirements:

Primary duties and responsibilities include consistent and accurate grading of surfaced and green lumber in a high production manufacturing operation. The successful candidate must be NHLA certified or equivalent experience, have the flexibility and ability to work in a team oriented, fast paced work environment with primary focus on personal and team safety behaviors.  Good work history and safety record with a strong desire to learn are required. Job offer is contingent on successful background check and drug screen.

Key Functions: The Transportation Manager is responsible for oversight of all international and domestic freight. The individual will work closely with our internal partners to ensure all shipments adhere to US import / export regulations and established customer timelines. Additionally, this position will maintain and establish internal processes to streamline order efficiency by leveraging their knowledge of best business practices in the areas of distribution networking, freight lane optimization and warehousing.

The essential duties and responsibilities are:

  • Leads priorities, goals and metrics for department and individual performance
  • Provides domestic scorecards illustrating key performance indicators related to truckload (OTR), less-than-truckload (LTL), rail and parcel service levels
  • Interprets, implements and follows-up on government regulations as necessary
  • Directs daily operations for all inbound and outbound freight (both domestic and international) and carrier rate/cost management, utilizing Freight Management System (FMS)
  • Directs company fleet maintenance, licensing, and registration
  • Directs dedicated cross-dock fleet ensuring timely delivery of product and key performance indicators (KPI) performance
  • Assists in the development of improved transportation expertise and practices including negotiation of transportation contracts; familiar with all modes and regulations, providers, etc.
  • Leads domestic transportation requests for pricing and contracts for all modes (LTL, Parcel, TL, Rail, etc.) including contract negotiations, legal reviews, data analysis and reporting
  • Responsible for motivating, training, recruitment, retention and career development of the Transportation Team
  • Assists in the development of expense plan, controls and measurements to monitor progress, including service-level agreements
  • Understands best practice metrics and the requirements for operational compliance / commitment and is a key leader in meeting the guidelines for effective service levels and risk management
  • Demonstrates support for the merchandising and stores organizations by fostering effective communication
  • Leads in the development of metrics, systems and best practices

 

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor degree in a supply chain management or related field
  • Three to five years of supply chain management experience with an emphasis in international trade
  • Three to five years of supply chain or operational supply chain analysis experience
  • Highly Proficient in Microsoft Office Products ;Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Basic knowledge of accounting practices relevant to accounts receivable/payable
  • Periodic travel is required (less than 10%)
  • Experience with managing employees
  • Two to three years of distribution industry experience preferred

Candidate will need to learn our production and software system which will be key to preforming our day to day planning and prioritization of shipments in conjunction with product management, sales managers and the sales team.

Domestic Transportation duties will include procurement of rates and carriers, tendering full truck load and occasional less-than-truckload (LTL) shipments, rail shipments and submission of shipping instructions, shipment tracking and other duties as assigned.

Key Functions:  Keys on the development and optimization of sound S&OP practices and mill/sales analytics to optimize profitability.  Primary objectives include:

 

  • Working with cross functional teams of operations and sales/marketing in the areas focused on forecasting accuracies and demand planning.
  • Lead the S&OP process including forecast development, consensus demand plans and gaining full alignment with the business team.
  • Establish annual forecast accuracy targets that optimize inventory levels, price and profitability. Measure weekly/monthly forecast error results versus established targets and identify and report on root cause for forecast error below targets
  • Work closely with Product Management & Operations to improve forecast accuracy, frequency of updates and potential operational impacts
  • Assist in the development of inventory levels, price and customer service objectives that are established and maintained
  • Team with Product Management in managing the processes that establish pricing that accurately assesses service costs, ensures customer equity while maintaining profitability.
  • Applies continuous improvement and analytical techniques to drive global improvement in S&OP and profit velocity performance
  • Apply expertise to continuously improve products, processes, procedures and associates
  • Education, Experience & Skills Required:
  • Bachelor Degree in Business Administration, Management, Supply Chain, Operations, Engineering, Materials preferred or a minimum of 10 years work experience performing a role substantially similar to the essential functions of this job description.
